Mercedes-Benz is set to introduce two new models to the Indian market on August 8: the all-new CLE Cabriolet and the updated GLC 43 4Matic Coupe. Both models will be fully imported and are categorized as TEVs (Top End Vehicles), with expected prices exceeding Rs 1 crore (ex-showroom). These launches are part of Mercedes-Benz’s plan to release six new vehicles in India before the end of 2024.
Mercedes-Benz CLE Cabriolet: What to Expect
The CLE Cabriolet is based on Mercedes’ Modular Rear Architecture (MRA) platform, sharing its underpinnings with the current C-Class and the upcoming E-Class. The design of the CLE Cabriolet takes cues from the E-Class coupe, featuring a striking front end and a sophisticated silhouette. Inside, the cabin is luxurious and tech-laden, mirroring the C-Class’s driver-focused cockpit and offering a spacious 2+2 seating configuration.
Under the hood, the CLE Cabriolet is expected to feature powerful petrol engines paired with mild-hybrid technology. While specific details for the Indian market are yet to be confirmed, the global lineup includes options such as a 2.0-litre four-cylinder and a 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine. All variants are equipped with a 48V mild-hybrid system, providing an additional 22 bhp and 200 Nm of torque through an electric motor integrated with the 9-speed automatic transmission.
Mercedes-Benz is likely to introduce the CLE Cabriolet in two variants in India: the CLE 300 4Matic and the CLE 450 4Matic. As a completely built unit (CBU), the price is expected to exceed the Rs 1 crore (ex-showroom) mark. The CLE Cabriolet will compete with the BMW Z4 M40i in the Indian market.
Mercedes-Benz GLC 43 4Matic Coupe: What to Expect
The GLC 43 Coupe, unveiled globally in September last year, has undergone a significant transformation. The previous generation’s six-cylinder engine has been replaced by a potent 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged unit paired with mild-hybrid technology. This new setup generates an impressive 416 bhp and 500 Nm of torque, enabling the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 4.7 seconds.
The powertrain is mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox, sending power to all four wheels. The GLC 43 Coupe proudly displays its AMG badge with aggressive styling elements, including a distinctive grille, sporty bumpers, and quad exhaust tips. Inside, the cabin combines luxury with performance, featuring AMG-specific sports seats, a steering wheel, and digital displays.
Expected to be priced above Rs 1 crore (ex-showroom), the GLC 43 Coupe will rival the BMW X3 M40i in India. This model’s introduction is part of Mercedes-Benz’s strategy to strengthen its position in the luxury SUV segment.
With the launch of these two models, Mercedes-Benz aims to reinforce its commitment to delivering high-performance, luxury vehicles to the Indian market, catering to the discerning tastes of its customers.
