15 Centrally Sponsored Schemes Have ‘Pradhan Mantri’, ‘Prime Minister’ In Their Names

As per Union Budget 2024-25 presented in the Parliament on July 23, 2024, there are 15 centrally sponsored schemes which bear the name “Pradhan Mantri” or “Prime Minister”. Rao Inderjit Singh, Minister of State in the Ministry of Planning was responding to a question that was asked in this regard. The minister, while answering to a set of questions asked by the Rajya Sabha member Sandeep Kumar Pathak, added that the modus operandi of each centrally sponsored scheme including its nomenclature, funding pattern, utilisation, etc., depends upon its guidelines which are formulated by the concerned ministries or departments.

He added that these schemes receive Parliamentary approval through budget provision and the process of appropriation. “Therefore, releases of funds for such schemes and their utilisation must necessarily be strictly in accordance with the Parliamentary authorisation. It is expected that different stakeholders including States/ Union Territories comply with the guidelines formulated by the concerned Ministries/ Departments from time to time,” he stated.

The minister listed these centrally sponsored schemes which bear the name “Pradhan Mantri” or “Prime Minister”: (i) Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman; (ii) PM Schools for Rising India; (iii) Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan; (iv) Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana; (v) Prime Minister Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme; (vi) Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana; (vii) Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission; (viii) Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (Rural and Urban); (ix) PM-eBus Sewa Scheme; (x) Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakaram; (xi) Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna; (xii) Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojna; (xiii) Pradhan Mantri Anusuchit Jaati Abhyuday Yojana; and (xiv) PM Young Achievers Scholarship Award Scheme for Vibrant India; and (xv) PM Vanbandhu Kalyan Yojna.

These schemes are implemented by the respective ministries or departments and share of Centre:State is generally 60:40 (90:10 for North Eastern and Himalayan States) with few schemes being 100% funded by the Central Government.
