A report quoted industry sources saying that Dubai International Airport has barred SpiceJet passengers from checking-in. The report said the action has been taken after pending dues from the airline to the international airport. The source also told a journalist that SpiceJet flights are operating empty out of Dubai and the issue is impacting passengers for the past one week.

In a follow-up post, the journalist has posted the response of the Ministry of Civil Aviation stating that they are monitoring the airline. “They are going through a challenging time”, the post added.

There has been no official response from Spice Jet officials yet.
The cash-strapped SpiceJet’s had earlier faced similar trouble in July as well. The “payment issues” with Dubai Airport led to the delay of 10 daily flights Dubai-India getting impacted as passengers boarding was not allowed on July 31.
The recent issue in Dubai is the latest in a line of financial embarrassments for the low-cost carrier. There have been reports of delays in the salary, PF, and TDS payment for more than a couple of years.
The Indian carrier runs flights to cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kochi and Calicut from Dubai.
The airline had reported a standalone profit of Rs 119 crore in the January-March quarter of the previous fiscal year, however, for the December quarter of the same year its losses stood at Rs 301.45 crore as against a profit of Rs 106.82 crore in FY23.

The airline has a total of 59 planes in its fleet which include 32 Boeing 737 and 24 Q400. Besides, it also has one Airbus 340 and two Airbus 320, which are on wet-lease, reports Indian express.
