India Reduces Export Duties On Petrol, Diesel, Aviation Turbine Fuel From Tomorrow

New Delhi: The union government has reduced export duties on petrol, diesel and aviation turbine fuel (ATF) for the fortnight beginning June 1, 2026. The government issued the notification on Saturday, May 30, noting that the export duty on petrol has been reduced to Rs 1.5 per litre, while the duty on diesel has been reduced to Rs 13.5 per litre.

Th aviation  turbine fuel export duty was cut to Rs 9.5 per litre as part of  its periodic review of levies imposed on petroleum product exports. Notably, there is no ​change ⁠in the existing excise duty rates on petrol and diesel ⁠cleared ​for domestic consumption.

The export levies, comprising the Special Additional Excise Duty (SAED) and the Road and Infrastructure Cess (RIC), were introduced on March 27, 2026, amid escalating geopolitical tensions in West Asia.

The imposition of levies were ensuring adequate domestic availability of petroleum products by discouraging excessive exports during a period of heightened uncertainty in global energy markets.

However, the  latest revision marks a significant reduction from the rates announced earlier this month, when the government had raised the export duty on petrol to Rs 3 per litre while reducing duties on diesel and aviation fuel to Rs 16.5 per litre and Rs 16 per litre, respectively.
