A warning has been issued by Indian IT giant Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to its employees to comply with the company’s work from office policy, extending the deadline by another quarter, until the end of March. This is the final deadline, the company stated.
Chief Operating Officer NG Subramanium warned of consequences for employees who fail to resume work from office by March. He emphasized the importance of work culture and security issues as the reasons behind this decision.
“We are exercising patience but have taken a principled stand that employees have to get back to offices. We have sent employees the final communication on this and if they do not, there will be consequences to face,” Subramanium said.
He said that working from home made employees and employers vulnerable. He further added, “With the kind of cyberattacks in today’s context, an organization can inadvertently get into trouble. One cannot have this kind of controls at home and there can be security risks to businesses.”
The IT company plans to move away from the hybrid model it adopted during the Covid-19 pandemic. To revive the pre-pandemic work culture, TCS has made the decision to bring employees back to the office. Previously, the company had announced a fourth of employees would work from home by 2025, once all employees return to the office.
During a recent announcement, TCS revealed that 65 percent of its workforce had been working from the office up to three days a week. Subramaniam stressed on the importance of restoring the original work culture, citing the negative effects of remote working on employee interactions and growth of organizations.
Reestablishing the work from office culture has been a significant challenge for the IT industry since the pandemic. Most companies have resorted to implement a hybrid work culture which requires employees to work in the office for three days in a week.
