Report suggests that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) board is likely to conduct exams twice a year from 2025-26 academic session, news agency PTI reported quoting sources from the Ministry of Education. The biannual board exams were suggested to provide the students with more opportunities while reducing their stress, according to the report.
The Education Ministry has asked the educational board to work out logistics for conducting board exams twice a year. CBSE might hold discussions on the plan to conduct biannual exams with the school principals next month, the news agency added. Notably, there is no immediate plan for a semester system.
According to the report, the Ministry had initially planned to introduce the biannual board exam system from the 2024-25 academic session. the idea that the ministry explored was to conduct the exam twice at the end of the year from the 2025-26 academic sessions, but the modalities still need to be worked out, the source added.
The new national curriculum framework (NCF), drafted by the Union government-appointed national steering company following the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, had proposed a semester system for students of classes 11 and 12. The framework also proposed that the students be given the option to write their board exams twice a year.
