Delhi University To Curb Ragging: Follow Supreme Court Judgement, Police In Plain Clothes Among Other Measures

Delhi University is taking all the possible measures to facilitate the smooth induction of students in the new academic session 2024-25. The University conducted a meeting of the proctorial board including officials from the Delhi Police and the senior officials. Reportedly, several important decisions were taken regarding the maintenance of discipline and ragging prevention on the campus.

As per the official notification, the colleges and departments were requested to ensure the enforcement of the rules and regulations issued, including the provisions of Ordinance XV, XV-C, and the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act 2013).

The notification read, “The UGC has formulated strict guidelines to curb the menace of ragging which was given on their website www.ugc.ac.in. As per UGC regulations on curbing the menace of ragging in higher educational Institutes, 2009, the principal/head/provost shall during the first three months of an academic year, submit a weekly report on the status of compliances with Anti-ragging measures under these regulations and monthly report on. such status thereafter. The report can be sent by email to proctor@du.ac in”.

The measures discussed during the meeting include:

  • Supreme Court judgment on ragging must be followed. The undertaking must be asked from parents or guardians at the time of admission.
  • Anti-Ragging Day will be observed on August 12 along with the anti-ragging weak from August 12 to 18.
  • Joint Control Rooms will be set up from August 1 to August 10 at the North and South Campus.
  • Bilingual anti-ragging awarenss posters should be installed at campuses.
  • Entry of outsiders will be restricted in colleges and hostels and rules will be displayed in the institutions
  • Anti-ragging/disciplinary committee and vigilance squdad must be set up in the colleges and hostels
  • Police pickets with special assistance provided to women colleges.
  • Strict actions against those found indulging in ragging activities.
  • Patrolling will be enforced to monitor the incidents
  • Patrolling has also been enforced to monitor and to take speedy action in case of any untoward incident in the campus.
  • Women Police in plain clothes will be delployed
  • Highlight raggin complaints by police officials
