Delhi University Hikes Fee For UG, PG, PhD And Foreign Students

Delhi University has hiked the fees for first-year undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programs and for foreign students seeking admission for the 2024-25 academic session. The new fee structure has been approved by the Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh in June. As per the new fee structure, the course fee for first-year BTech students has been raised by 3.70 percent to 2.24 lakh from its earlier 2.16 lakh.

According to the reports the increase is for the first-year students only. The university has raised several components of the fee structure that include tuition fees, students’ welfare fund, facilities and services charges, development fees, and economically weaker section support fund. The contribution share for the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) has been removed from the fee structure for some departments. For LLB and MBA fee structure the contribution has also been removed. However, for UG and PG courses, the contribution has increased from Rs 20 to Rs 40.

The fees for the five-year Integrated Law Programs for academics have been hiked by 5 percent from Rs 1.90 lakh to Rs 1.99 lakh. The fee for the 4-year Integrated Teachers Education Programme (ITEP) under the faculty of education is increased to Rs 57,400. PhD scholars have to pay over 60% more fees to Rs 7,130 from Rs 4,450.

The fee has also been hiked for foreign students seeking admission to the varsity. However, foreign nationals interested in MA Hindu Studies at DU need to pay a lesser course fee. The fees for students from SAARC countries have been reduced from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 50,000 and increased for students from non-AARC countries from Rs 1 lakh to 2 lakh. Tibetan students will be exempted from paying university registration fees and additional fees payable to colleges and departments.
