The Gujarat High Court Issued a notice to the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) on a plea by a student who challenged the cancellation of his admission to its two-year post-graduate program on technical grounds.
IIMA canceled the petitioner’s admission in September 2023 and by then Petitioner R Shri Vignesh had completed three-fourths of his course at the B-School. Vignesh could not receive his degree certificates and mark sheets from IIT Madras on time due to administrative and procedural delays.
Justice Aniruddha P. Mayee issued the notice, to the IIMA and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, from where the student had completed his five-year BTech plus MTech integrated course in 2021. The notice is returnable on October 21.

The petitioner joined IIT Madras in 2016 in a 5-year BTech plus MTech integrated course and completed it in June 2021. He secured a 98.66 percentile in the Common Admission Test (CAT) and was admitted to the IIMA in May 2022.
IIMA granted him extensions a couple of times to submit the required documents and the petitioner successfully completed his four trimesters succesfully. However, the institute invalidated his admission after the fourth trimester over non-submission of documents in September 2023.
The cousel said the petitioner secured his documents in July 2024 and approached IIMA to seek readmission. The lawyer argued that the petitoner was not at fault and cannot be blamed for the delay in submitting the required documents.
