
IGNOU Starts Registration For Online And Distance Programmes; Mandates DEB ID
The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has commenced the online registration process for admissions to its Online and Distance Learning (ODL) courses for the July 2025 session. Candidates can apply through the official portal – ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in before the last date on July 15, 2025.
The registrations are underway for both online and distance learning modes. Students can also apply for scholarships offered through the National Scholarship Portal at scholarships.gov.in.
A Distance of Education Bureau (DEB) ID is essential before IGNOU application form submission, as per the university’s directives. This ID is essential for students enrolling in online or distance education programmes to be recognised by the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The University Grants Commission (UGC) has mandated registration through the DEB ID.

As per the official announcement, applicants must obtain a DEB ID before initiating the admission process. “The DEB ID is a required component of the application. Make sure to generate your Distance Education Bureau (DEB) ID before starting your application,” the notification reads.
IGNOU Admission 2025: How to create DEB ID
Step 1: Create an Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) ID
Step 2: Once the ABC ID is successfully generated, register the DEB ID.
Step 3: Provide the required details, including mobile number and email address, as per the instructions
Step 4: Submit the form to receive DEB ID
