IIT Delhi: MTech Student Found Dead In Hostel

An MTech student of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi found hanging from the ceiling of the room on Friday. Police suspects suicide, and investigation is underway. However, the cause of death is yet to be found out.

The student was identified as Sanjay Nerkar (24) and was a native of Nashik, Maharashtra, Police said. The matter came to notice when the family of the student asked his hostel mates to check on Nerkar since he was not answering his phone, they said. He stayed in room number 757 at Dronacharya Hostel.

“Nerkar”s family members called him on Thursday night. When he did not answer the phone, the family members asked his hostel mates to check on him,” PTI quotes as Police officer is saying.

When the other students went to check on him in his room, they found it locked from inside. Following, the hostel guard broke open the door and his body was found hanging from the ceiling of the room, the Police officer said.

The student”s family has been informed, and more details are awaited.

On February 13, a16-year-old student who was preparing for Indian Institute of Technology – Joint Entrance Exam (IIT-JEE) found dead in his hostel room. The deceased student, a resident of Jharkhand, was studying in Kota for the past two years.
