NEET UG -2024 Controversy: Petition Filed In Supreme Court Urges Re-evaluation Of All OMR Sheets

In a series of petitions filed in the Supreme Court since the NEET UG- 2024, another petition gets added demanding a complete re-evaluation of all OMR answer sheets, formation of a new rank of candidates, and a court-monitored inquiry. The NEET UG-2024 exam conducted on May 5, 2024, is surrounded by controversies that have put the future of about 24 lakh candidates at stake.

So far Supreme Court has heard several petitions and sought responses from the government and the National Testing Agency (NTA). Many of them are tagged for July 8, 2024, and the honorable court rejected the pleas demanding a stay on the counseling procedure.

Under the given petition, the petitioners have challenged the serious discrepancies in the evaluation process and sought a writ of mandamus to

  1. Declare the grace marks to 1563 candidates as unreasonable and illegal
  2. Re-evaluation of all OMR sheets without the application of the grace marks formula and re-generate the ranks
  3. Formation of a High-Power enquiry committee chaired by a Retired Supreme Court Judge or High Court Judge
  4. Conduct a forensic audit to highlight the unfair means used during the exam by candidates
  5. Press releases by the NTA on June 4 (result declaration) and June 6 (clarification on result queries) shall be declared as illegal and quashed

Earlier, petitioners filed several petitions demanding CBI enquiry, re-examination, and formation of a committee headed by judges among others.

In response to the candidate’s demands, the central government has constituted a 4 member committee to look into the discrepancies related to the grace marks and also announced that re-examined 1563 candidates whose ranks get affected by the grace marks.
