Supreme Court Directs NTA To File Response On Plea Seeking CBI Inquiry In NEET Controversy

The Supreme Court issued notice on pleas demanding a CBI investigation into the alleged cases of paper leaks and irregularities in the NEET UG- 2024 exam on May 5, 2024, and its result.

The vacation bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta was hearing the case and tagged the cases listed on July 8. While NTA is directed to file a response within 2 weeks and other respondents till the next date of hearing.

The counsel said that petitioners were seeking a CBI investigation into the alleged cases, Justice Nath observed that NTA’s response to the same is important before any order was passed.

Petitioners seek the entire details of the examination about every candidate before the counseling starts in July. “It is the future of 24 lakh students”, the counsel urged. Justice Nath remarked “We understand that… We are conscious of all that”, and said that all arguments shall be raised on July 8, 2024.

While another counsel highlighted that, “The NTA has not disclosed the qualified number of students and disqualified number of students. Instead of that, they have sought re-examination of the entire 1563, whereas, as per the admission of the NTA, 790 are the students who qualified the exam and 773 are the disqualified even after obtaining the grace marks”. Justice Mehta responded to file objections to the order for consideration.

The bench also reiterated to not to stay the counselling of NEET UG – 2024.

Seven such petitions were filed by the candidates pertaining to various demands with respect to the NEET irregularities.

With respect to the grace marks, centre told the Supreme Court that grace marks given to 1563 candidates will be revoked and those students will be given an option of re-test on June 23, 2024.
