NEP 2020 Recognises AI And Remote Learning Platforms: Ministry Of Education

The minister of state of education Subhas Sarkar informed the lower house about the recognition of transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and remote learning platforms under the National Education Policy 2020.

Subhas Sarkar, the minister of state of education answered the unstarred questions in the Lok Sabha asked by S. Jagathrakshakan. While answering upon the NEP 2020 recognition of AI and remote learning Sarker replied, “The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 recognizes the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and remote learning platforms as critical components in achieving key goals of the NEP such as enhancing academic excellence and skill development across all segments of the students. By embracing AI and remote learning, NEP 2020 aims to equip students with 21st-century skills, fostering innovation, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities essential for their academic and professional success in a rapidly evolving world”.

He also informed that NEP 2020 has highlighted AI and remote platforms as important technological tools to create a skilled workforce, for curricular and pedagogical initiatives, and to create a robust ecosystem of research. This will also play a decisive role in India’s future and leadership role in numerous upcoming fields and professions, he replied.

These platforms and tools will reach to students in remote areas and address the needs of Divyang and teacher training by integrating multi-modal tools like SWAYAM, DIKSHA and SWAYAM PRABHA.  It will also open the door for the accessibility of quality content to all learners in their regional languages, informed minister.

Acknowledging NEP 2020 in driving sustainable growth in the role of research and innovation, he informed that NEP 2020 adopts and aligns with the critical targets and goals of SDGs of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Delving into the importance of research, the minister informed, “NEP envisions the establishment of a National Research Foundation (NRF) with an overarching goal to enable a culture of research to permeate in education ecosystem. An Anusandhan National Research Foundation Act has been passed and notified by Government of India on 14th August 2023 towards setting up such a body”.
