The Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, announced the NIRF 2024 ranking today. Based on the NIRF ranking 2024, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru has bagged the top spot in the list of the best research institutes in the country. Securing the rest of the four spots are IITs, with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras taking the second spot.
IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay and IIT Khargapur took the third, fourth and fifth positions, respectively.

Notably, in the NIRF rankings of 2023 as well, the same educational institutions ranked as the top five research institutes.
The Ministry of Education has released the NIRF rankings in 16 categories including Overall, Engineering, Law, Pharmacy, Management and others today.
This year, three new categories namely ‘open universities’, ‘skill universities’ and ‘state funded government universities,’ have been introduced.
