Plight Of Students Who Scored High In CUET But Denied Admission

The admission process is underway at Delhi University and students who scored high are getting into their dream colleges. However, reportedly some students could not get admission despite scoring high on the Common University Entrance Test (CUET). Students are unable to secure seats though their student allocation status has been ‘verified by the convener’.

As per a report published in the Times of India, some students who were assigned seats in St Stephen’s College according to their CUET performance have been refused admission by the college. The authorities earlier verified these students’ allocation statuses, but the admissions were not initiated or halted.

Students who secured 780 or 770 scores out of 800 could not get admission and these students who had chosen St Stephen as their top priority are not allowed to opt for their second choices now. As per the university, the number of such candidates is 22.

Reportedly, these aggrieved students and their parents have failed to get any satisfactory answer from the university administration. Upon contacting Stephen’s college helpline, they refused to help and said that it was not their responsibility and that all the seats had already been filled. As per the students, at this stage, their prospects of getting admission to other colleges have ended now.

According to the TOI report one of these students’ application status was showing ‘to be verified by the college’ and during the numerous communications with the college administration, they responded that the verification would be done soon. However, now after all the wait, the university administration said that all seats have been filled.

Cases were also reported where two students secured the same score but one student was denied admission because the college could not go beyond the 5% extra seat allocation.

However, the college responded by following the due procedure while allocating the seats.
