Spring loaded fans were installed in hostels and PG accommodations in Rajasthan”s Kota to prevent suicide among students.

This unique method was introduced by the Kota administration to curb the rising death toll by student suicides in Rajasthan. Kota is one of the major entrance exam coaching hubs In the country.

The fans are being installed in every hostels and paying guest accommodations in Kota.

The solution, which is also quite unusual is now mocked by social media as a video, in which a man is doing a demonstration went viral on X (formerly Twitter).

As soon as the man tries to hang and weight is given to the fan, the spring installed brings the man down along with the fan.

Changing fans, without addressing the stress and mental health of the students, is what public mocking at.

“Considering the increased suicide cased among students, steps were taken by the administration to decrease it”, said Naveen Mittal, President of Hostel Association in Kota to ANI.

According to the reports of the Times of India, 20 suicide cases have been reported in Kota in 2023.

An 18-year old student was found hanging at a rented accommodation on Tuesday, and it is the fourth such incident reported in Kota this month.

Ashok Gehlot, Chief Minister of Rajasthan, expressed his concern over the student suicides, last week. He also urged the parents not to put stress on their children in matters of studies.
