Telangana Implements Telugu As A Compulsory Subject In CBSE, ICSE, IB And Other Boards

The Telangana Government issued an order implementing Telugu as a compulsory subject in CBSE, ICSE, IB, and other Board-affiliated schools in Telangana, the School Education Department said.

The SINGIDI (Standard Telugu) has been replaced with VENNELA (Simple Telugu) with code (089) as per the CBSE subject list (Language Group—L) for Class IX from A.Y. 2025-26 and for the X class from A.Y. 2026-2027.

In the circumstances reported by the Director of School Education, Telangana, Hyderabad in the reference 2nd cited, after examination of the proposal, the Government, hereby accorded permission.

The Director of School Education, Telangana, Hyderabad, would like to take the necessary action in the matter, as needed.

The state government had brought the Telangana (Compulsory Teaching and Learning of Telugu in Schools) Act in 2018 to make teaching Telugu compulsory in government Zilla Parishad, mandal parishad, aided schools as well as CBSE, ICSE, and other Boards affliliated schools in Telangana.

The ‘Simple Telugu’ textbook will help those students whose mother toungue is not Telugu and those who belong to other states.
