Training For Universities/HEIs On Content Creation And Teaching Through Bharatiya Languages

In February and March of 2024, University Grants Commission (UGC) and Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti (BBS) will jointly organize a two-day training session on content creation and teaching through Indian languages in a zone-wise face-to-face format.

For the training purpose, two senior faculty members will be nominated by the honorable vice-chancellor of the university or higher education institution to become certified Master Trainers. The last date to submit the application is 31st January 2024.

One senior faculty member from the Science stream and one from Commerce/Social Science who can speak, write, and teach in the local language of the university”s location should be nominated. These selected faculty members will be professors or associate professors.

Promotion of teaching-learning through local languages in Higher Education is a crucial area of focus in the National Education Policy-2020. The goal of the strategy is to improve access and GER as well as to promote the strength, usage, and vibrancy of all Bharatiya languages. It places particular emphasis on the provision of academic programs in Higher Education Institutions using mother tongues or local languages as the medium of teaching. It also emphasizes the importance of having excellent study guides and books available in regional tongues for classes across a range of subject areas.

In this sense, the “HEIs play a crucial role in developing a robust ecology for Bharatiya language instruction inside their establishment”, is mentioned under the official notification. The faculties at HEIs across all disciplines must be equipped to provide content and instruct in the students” native tongues as a first step in this direction. The HEI faculty members need to pay attention to a number of issues, including standard language, authentic terminology, machine translation, text editing, and multilingual instruction.

The link of the google form and nomination letter for two senior faculties is given in the official notification. Before filling the google form, the Nomination letter must be duly filled and signed by the Competent Authority.
