UGC Issues SOPs To Implement National Credit Framework (NCrF)

The University Grant Commission (UGC) has issued a letter regarding the SOPs for the implementation of the National Credit Framework (NCrF) in Higher Education, Vocational Education, Training and Skilling (VETS), and School Education. UGC notified the National Credit Framework (NCrF) on April 10, 2023, and requested all the Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) to adopt NCrF in their respective institutions.

The Ministry of Education constituted a High-level Committee (HLC) to formulate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to implement the NCrF. The HLC developed SOPs for the implementation of NCrF.

The commission issued a copy of SOPs for the operationalization of NCrF in Higher Education, Vocational Education, Training and Skilling (VETS), and School Education. The commission asked Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) to use the SOPs for the implementation of NCrF.

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, envisions a disruptive transformation in the education system to make India a global knowledge superpower and to realise it a High Level Committee (HLCs) to formulate the National Credit Framework (NCrF). Memebers of UGC, CBSE, NCERT, AICTE, NCVET, Dept of School Education and Learning & Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, DGT and Ministry of Skill Development were part of HLC.

The NCrF provides for creditiation of all learning levels including academic, vocational, skill, accumulation, storage, transfer & redemption of credits, and its operationlisation through the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC). The High Level Committee of NCrF suggested to create SOP for integrating Higher Education with Vocational education, training & skilling.

The detailed guidelines are issued to follow the SOPs for the effective implementation of the NCrF.
