With Telangana heading for assembly polls, the Congress party has released the list of names of the party candidates. The second list of 45 candidates for the elections to be held on November 30, have been let out. The list includes Mohammad Azharuddin, the former Indian Cricket Captain who would be fielding from Jubilee Hills, among other party members, reported the Deccan Herald.
The congress party candidates’ names which have been released are, Madhu Goud Yakshi, former MP, who would contest from Lal Bahadur Nagar, Ponnam Prabhakar would field from Husanabad, Adilabad would have Kandi Srniwas Reddy, Khammam would have Tumla Nageshwar Rao and Munugode would have K Raj Gopal Reddy, the party list read.
The Telangana state has 119 constituencies. The November 30 assembly elections will have a total number of 100 contenders from these constituencies. Raj Gopal Reddy, who had left the party more than a year back, to join the BJP, has now returned to the Congress fold, just weeks before the elections.
In another interesting move, Azharuddin, the former Captain turned politician, also a former MP from Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad, is now all set to be fielded from Jubilee Hills. Earlier in the day on Friday, the Congress party had held its Central Election Committee to pick the candidates for the upcoming assembly polls. The meeting was chaired by party President Mallikarjun Kharge, attended by former chief of the party, Sonia Gandhi, along with other committee members and leaders of Telangana, which included A Revanth Reddy, the PCC (Pradesh Congress Committee) chief. Earlier, on Wednesday, the party had held the Congress Election Committee meeting for Telangana.
In the list released before, Anumala Revanth Reddy, Pradesh Congress chief, was fielded from Kodangal assembly seat. He is presently, the sitting MP, Lok Sabha, from Malkajgiri parliamentary constituency. The earlier list also had Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu, the CLP leader, to contest from Madhira-SC seat. The Congress party is planning on the replacement of the State’s BRS (Bharat Rashtra Samithi) government.
