Congress on Sunday released the first list of candidates from the party for the upcoming Telangana assembly elections. The list encompasses 55 members.
Thumkunta Narsa Reddy will contest against Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (BRS) at Gajwel constituency. The state is all set to witness a triangular contest between the incumbent Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS), the Congress, and the centre holding BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party).
In the previous Assembly election held in 2018, BRS secured a huge majority with 88 seats out of the total 119 and enthralled with a dominant vote share of 47.4 per cent. The party also announced 144 candidates for the Madhya Pradesh elections and 30 for Chhattisgarh polls.
Telangana Assembly election will be held on November 30 and the date of counting is scheduled on December 3, as announced by the Election Commission of India previously. The term of legislative assembly of Telangana will end on January 16.
The election in five states is going to be a crucial test for BJP after their defeat in the Karnataka elections. Aiming to grab power, Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself has joined the campaign and visited the state.
But as for BRS, fresh trouble seems brewing in the party. Several leaders and ticket aspirants of the elections has already joined the Congress. Amid all the political trouble, Telangana Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao has been focusing on the party’s election manifesto and finalizing campaign strategies ahead. And the manifesto is expected to be unveiled at a massive public meeting in Warangal on October 16 by the Chief Minister, reports Time of India.
