Dr Subhash Ramrao Bhamre is an oncologist by profession. A noted medical practitioner, politics came as second vocation for this BJP leader. He has served as a Minister of State for Defence from 2016 to 2019.

In the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls, Subhash Bhamre is aiming for a third term from Dhule constituency in Maharashtra.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, which he contested for the first time, Subhash Bhamre defeated Congress candidate Amarishbhai Rasiklal Patel by a margin of 1,30,723 votes. He was one of the “non-political” personalities contested by the BJP in the elections. In the 2019 elections, Subhash Bhamre retained the seat by defeating Congress rival Kunal Rohidas Patil by a margin of 2,29,243 votes, increasing the margin from the last time.

As a parliamentarian, he has served as a member of the Standing Committee on Health and Family Welfare, a member of the Consultative Committee on the Ministry of Railways, and a member of the Committee on Welfare of Other Backward Classes. In 2019, he undertook the title of Vice President of the Maharashtra BJP.

Subhash Bhamre is passionately engaged in social work. Apart from organising several free medical check-up camps, he has conducted free surgeries for poor patients. Bhamre has also conducted public education events to initiate and spread awareness about cancer and its early detection and prevention, as well as other health awareness programmes. Besides, he is known for the house visits of financially weak cancer patients who couldn’t afford to visit a hospital for prognosis and treatment, the Indian Express reports.

Dhule Lok Sabha constituency comprises six Assembly segments. Though Congress enjoyed Dhule as their dominion until the early 1990s, the constituency began to shift in favour of the BJP after its first win in the seat in 1996.
