Ramdas Chandrabhanji Tadas is aiming for a third consecutive win from Wardha Lok Sabha constituency in Maharashtra. He belongs to the Teli community. He gained recognition as a wrestler from Vidarbha.
Ramdas Tadas was earlier associated with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and served as a legislator and member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council. In 2009, he shifted allegiance to the BJP, and in the subsequent assembly elections, he contested unsuccessfully against Congress candidate Ranjit Kamble for Deoli consituency in Maharashtra. Ramdas Tadas has also served as the Vice President of the State BJP.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Ramdas Tadas defeated Congress candidate Sagar Meghe by over 2,15,783 votes. And in the 2019 elections, he retained the position by defeating Congress” Charulata Tokas by a margin of 1,87,191 votes. Besides being a parliamentarian, he has also served as a member of the Standing Committee on Information Technology and a member of the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
Ramdas Tadas began his political career with the Agricultural Produce Market Committee and then served as the Chairperson of the Deoli Municipal Council. He then became director of the State Transport Corporation of Maharashtra.
Wardha Lok Sabha constituency comprises six assembly segments. The constituency spread over Amravati and Wardha districts. It was once Congress stronghold where the party enjoyed power for more than thirty years. Wardha is dominated by the Teli and Kunbi communities. Aside from them, Dalit, tribal, and Muslim populations hold decisive influence in the region.
Congress MLA Amar Kale will be fielding in opposition to Ramdas Tadas in the upcoming election. He will be fielding the NCP symbol, on behalf of the Sharad Pawar group. As Amar Kale belongs to the Kunbi community, the leadership hopes that his candidacy will bring community votes and a tough fight against Ramdas Tadas.
