The Ranchi seat in Jharkhand is a stronghold of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Chandreshwar Prasad Singh also known as C.P. Singh has won the seat six times since 1996. He is a veteran BJP leader and a former minister.
However, in the 2019 election, Rajya Sabha MP Mahua Maji of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) gave Singh a tough challenge. She lost by just over 5,000 votes. This year, Maji is once again challenging Singh, and the contest is expected to be closely fought.

The Ranchi constituency is a general category seat in Ranchi district. It forms part of the Ranchi parliamentary seat. According to the 2011 Census, the constituency has a significant number of Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and Muslim voters.
In the 2019 assembly elections, C.P. Singh won the seat with 79,646 votes (46.77%). Mahua Maji received 73,742 votes (43.31%). This year’s contest is closely watched as Mahua Maji seeks to break the BJP’s long-standing dominance in the Ranchi constituency.

The counting of votes for the Jharkhand Assembly elections is set to take place today November 23, 2024. The main battle is between the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led INDIA alliance and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) for 81 seats altogether.
The counting of votes for the Ranchi Assembly constituency began at 8 am today. The results are eagerly awaited.
