In Chhatarpur, BJP’s Kartar Singh Tanwar wins with 6,239 votes. BJP’s Brahm Singh Tanwar, and Congress’ Rajender Singh Tanwar is in second and third position. The Chhatarpur assembly constituency is formed after the Delimitation Commission of India constituted in 2002. The constituency is the part of South Delhi Lok Sabha constituency. The major contestants vying for the seat are AAP’s Brahm Singh Tanwar, BJP’s Kartar Singh Tanwar, and Congress’ Rajender Singh Tanwar.
During the 2020 assembly election, Kartar Singh Tanwar won the seat as an AAP candidate with the margin of 3,720 votes. Brahm Singh Tanwar, who was BJP candidate back then, came second with 65,691 votes, and Congress’ Satish Lohia came third with mere 3,874 votes.
During the 2015 assembly election, Kartar Singh Tnawar won the seat on AAP ticket with the majority of 22,240 seats. Brahm Singh Tanwar, who was a BJP candidate, won 45,405 seats, and Congress’ Balram Singh Tanwar could only win 9,339 votes.
Kartar Singh Tanwar won the seat two times on AAP ticket, in 2015 and 2020. Brahm Singh Tanwar won the seat in 2013 on BJP ticket, and Balram Tanwar won the seat in 2008 on Congress.
The Assembly election in Delhi was held on February 5, with over 15 million voters casting their ballots across 70 constituencies. A total of 699 candidates, including 96 women, contested the elections.
The triangular contest in the national capital created palpable tension. While AAP and Congress are part of INDIA alliance on national level, the two parties are contesting against each other in Delhi. If BJP won the capital, it would be a huge comeback after 27 years.
