In Telangana, Congress has staged a clear dominance, winning nine seats with a lead of 59 seats. The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party has conceded its defeat in the state.
Taking to X, the state minister KTR said, “I am not saddened over the result today, but surely disappointed as it was not in our expectations.” But we will take this in stride as learning and will bounce back.”
He congratulated Congress on their victory.
In Madhya Pradesh, as the vote count progresses, the BJP has won 22 seats, giving it a clear lead of 158 seats. With this, the party has crossed the majority mark of 116. The Indian National Congress has won seven seats and others in one. Congress is leading with 63 seats.
In Rajasthan, the BJP has won 49 seats with a total lead of 115. The Indian National Congress is trailing behind the BJP with a lead of 70 seats and 23 wins.
In Chhattisgarh, the BJP is leading in 47 seats and has crossed the majority mark of 46 seats. The Indian National Congress is trailing behind with 41 seats.
BJP
The result of these states is essential for BJP. If the party manages to gain power in these four states, that would be a huge boost to Narendra Modi and his confidence on winning the 2024 general election. If BJP manages to come back to power, that would show that even after strong anti-incumbency sentiments that were visible during the assembly election of Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka.
If BJP manages to gain power in these state elections, the party would be the most popular party of the nation that may come to power for the third time in a row despite all the negative notion that has started to seep in on the reputation of the party.
Congress
This assembly elections are crucial for Congress and Rahul Gandhi. After all the efforts put in by the opposition leader throughout the entire nation including the nation long march, the Bharat Jodo Yatra, a win in any of these states or on all four or three of these states, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana, would boost his confidence in gaining their lost glory on national level.
The result of the assembly election of these states are highly decisive for the BJP-led NDA (National Democratic Alliance) and INDI Alliance (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance), as results from these states could shape the dynamic of these alliances. There are popular talks that, if lose, Congress or BJP may not go well with their allies.
Rajasthan:
Both BJP and Congress are fighting hard in Rajasthan. Though Congress managed to form government for two terms in a row, the glory of the incumbent party has diminished a little with the infamous row between Sachin Pilot and the current chief Minster Ashok Gehlot. BJP is providing a tough fight.
Chhattisgarh:
Chhattisgarh is bearing witness to stiff combat between BJP and Congress, the current ruling party. While Congress is fighting for its second term in the Chhattisgarh, BJP is fighting with raising allegations against Congress that would diminish the party’s image in the state.
Madhya Pradesh:
Congress is determined to gain back their lost power in Madhya Pradesh and overthrow the current BJP rule, like it has done with Congress back in 2020. With MLAs including Jyotiraditya Scindia to defect, BJP managed to take down Congress in 2020. Currently, Shivraj Singh Chouhan of BJP is wielding the power.
Telangana:
The newly formed state of Telangana is facing a fierce battle between BJP and Congress. In Telangana, polling was held in 119 constituencies on December 30. India is witnessing fierce competition between the incumbent Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), led by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, and the Congress. The BJP is expected to improve their positions in the state.
