Arvind Sawant's Hat-trick Win From Mumbai South Lok Sabha Constituency

In the Lok Sabha seat of Maharashtra, Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate Arvind Ganpat Sawant has emerged victorious by securing 395,655 votes. He won with a vote margin of 52,673 votes.

Arvind Sawant, Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate is an incumbent member of the Parliament. He started his political career in 1968, he became a ‘gat pramukh’ and joined Shiv Sena.

Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde’s candidate Yamini Jadhav is a first time MLA and a former corporator. She is the wife of former standing committee chairman of Brihanmumbai Municipal Coorperation (BMC) Yashwant Jadhav.

Historically, the seat from 1952 to 1967 was held by Congress. It was later broken by George Fernandes, who ran under the banner of the United Socialist Party and won the 1967 election. The seat was later returned to the grand old party in 1977. Later from 1977 to 1984, it was under the rule of Indian Lok Dal and the Janata party.

Of the total six Lok Sabha seats in Mumbai, the BJP and erstwhile ally Shiv Sena (undivided) won three seats each in the 2019 elections.

In the 2014 election, Shiv Sena Arvind Sawant won the seat with 3,74,609 votes and Congress Milind Muruli Deora came second with 2,46,045 votes.

In the last Lok sabha election, Shiv Sena Arvind Sawant retained the seat by receiving 4,21,937 votes. Once again Congress’s Milind came in second by receiving 4,21,937 votes.

The Maha Vikas Agadhi has toppled the exit poll results and has won from the state sweeping majority of the seats.
