The Indian National Congress has given ticket to the MLA of Mundawar, Lalit Yadav, from Alwar Lok Sabha constituency. Skipping to give ticket to former MP Karan Singh Yadav, the grant old party is giving off a clear indication that it is paving way for young faces.
In the 2023 assembly election, Lalit Yadav contested from Mundawar constituency on BSP ticket. He came third in that election. He won the seat in the 2023 assembly election on Congress ticket. He joined the party just ahead of the assembly election. He won the seat with a margin of 34,256 votes. In the upcoming Lok Sabha election, Lalit Yadav is contesting against the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Bhupendra Yadav, who is currently serving as Union Forest and Environment Minister.
Alwar is a Yadav stronghold, which is why the grant old party of India decided to field Lalit by replacing Jitendra Singh, who is a scion of Alwar royals and a Rajput, after two consecutive failures. The congress is aiming to win with the Yadav voters, which is followed by the Muslim and Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes voters, whereas, the BJP is holding on to the Modi appeal and development agenda.
The Alwar constituency consist of eight assembly segments in Rajasthan. The constituency is considered a traditional bastion of Congress, as they won the seat for 11 times since 1952. It was only in the 2014 and 2019 election, the BJP took over.
