Congress' First Meeting To Decide Lok Sabha Candidates On March 7

Congress will hold the first meeting of its Central Election Committee (CEC) on March 7. Congress general secretary in charge of communications Jairam Ramesh wrote on X that the first meeting of the CEC that considers and decides on candidates for Lok Sabha polls is being held at 6pm on March 7th.

Karnataka Chief Minister and senior leader Siddaramaiah also said on Wednesday that Congress” list of candidates will be announced in “two to three days.” Siddaramaiah also added that there is no “major controversy” over the selection of candidates. “In two to three days, the Congress list may also be released,” Karnataka CM told reporters in Karwar, as quoted by the Deccan Herald.

According to an Economic Times report, the first CEC meeting is expected to take up the lists of candidates for Chhattisgarh, Kerala, and Telangana. At the same time, the BJP has already announced its first list of 195 candidates for the Lok Sabha polls.

The Congress party has already completed seat sharing talks with INDIA partners in several states. As part of this, Congress recently announced that the party will contest 17 of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh. The Samajwadi Party, led by Akhilesh Yadav, will contest in the remaining seats in UP. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress have also reached an understanding in terms of seat sharing in the upcoming polls. Both parties have agreed on a seat-sharing arrangement in Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Goa.
