Delhi Assembly Elections: 70 Constituencies To Vote Tomorrow

New Delhi: The Delhi assembly elections have been made fierce as the three major political forces are  assertively racing for power in the national capital. As the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is eying a third term in power, the other two fronts—Congress and the BJP—are bent on recapturing the capital city.

All the parties have showered people with dreamy promises and development assurance, aiming to woo maximum voters. The people will cast their vote tomorrow, February 5, and the result will be known on the 8th, unveiling the much-anticipated mandate of the people of Delhi. The ruling AAP chief and former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has predicted over 55 seats out of a  total of 70 for his party while the BJP and Congress have also expressed their confidence in winning a big number.

According to the Election Commission of India (ECI). Over 15.5 million voters will cast their ballots across 13,033 polling stations in the capital. The polling will begin from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. The poll body has appealed to the voters to use their mandate earlier to avoid a rush at the end.

During the 2020 assembly elections, AAP recaptured the power, gaining dominance by winning 62 seats while the BJP secured only eight seats. The Congress, however, failed to secure a single seat. In 2015, AAP swept the capital city, securing 67 of 70 seats while the BJP got the remaining three and the Congress got none. The grand old party has vowed to come back, invigorating its grassroots workers and making big guarantees.

For the voters’ ease, the poll body has introduced guidelines allowing individuals to vote even if they do not possess a voter ID card. The primary requirement for voting without a physical voter ID is that an individual’s name must be included in the ECI’s electoral roll. Anyone who is a citizen of India and at least 18 years old as of January 1 of the year of the electoral roll revision is eligible to vote.
