Delhi Elections: AAP Release First List Of 11 Candidates; 6 Are Defectors

New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday released its first list of 11 candidates for the 2025 Delhi elections. Out of the 11 candidates, six are BJP and Congress turncoats. The Delhi assembly election is expected to be held in early 2025.

The list prominently features six leaders who had recently joined AAP from the BJP and Congress. Former BJP leaders Brahm Singh Tanwar, Anil Jha, and BB Tyagi, along with ex-Congress leaders Chaudhry Zubair Ahmad, Veer Dhingan, and Sumesh Shokeen, have been given tickets to contest the elections under the AAP banner.

Ram Singh Netaji is a two-time MLA from Badarpur and Zubair Chaudhary is the son of five-time Seelampur MLA and Congress leader Mateen Ahmed. Veer Singh Dhingan, earlier with the Congress, is a three-time MLA from Seemapuri. Gaurav Sharma is AAP’s national joint secretary for organisation building and Manoj Tyagi is a former councillor.

After releasing the candidate list, the AAP leader Gopal Rai said, “The Aam Aadmi Party has released the first list of 11 candidates for Delhi Assembly elections (2025). The names were finalised in the political affairs committee meeting chaired by party’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal. Most of these 11 seats are those which are not held by the AAP at present”.

The loyalists who were retained are Sarita Singh, a former MLA from Rohtas Nagar, Ram Singh Netaji – ex-Badarpur MLA and Deepak Singhla, a 2020 Vishwas Nagar candidate and incharge of Maharashtra and Goa AAP.

The party has denied a poll pass to three sitting MLAs and subsequent lists will show if they are accommodated in other seats. Thet are Kirari MLA Rituraj Jha, Seelampur legislator Abdul Rahman and Matiala MLA Gulab Singh Yadav.

The last Delhi Assembly election was held in February 2020, where the AAP has won a decisive victory, securing 62 out of 70 seats. The BJP managed only 8 seats, and Congress failed to open its account.
