Congress leaders alleged separatist remarks sparked controversy on social media. It all started when the BJP dominated the Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan assembly elections while Congress took the lead in the Telangana election.
“The SOUTH!” Congress leader Karti Chidambaram cried out after his party seized power in Telangana despite losing the Hindi heartland. Congress leader Praveen Chakravarty said on X, “The south-north boundary line is getting thicker and clearer.” He later deleted the post.
There are many posts hovering on social media similar to this. Congress leaders seem to be implying a scenario where South India belongs to non-BJP governments while North India is helmed by the BJP.
Andhra Pradesh is currently ruled by the YSR Congress Party”s Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy, while Telangana belongs to the Congress, Karnataka-Bharatiya Janata Party, Kerala-Communist Party of India (Marxist), and Tamil Nadu-Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.
Annoyed by these comments, BJP leaders staged a big protest on social media. BJP leader CR Kesavan shared the screenshot of the deleted X post of Praveen Chakravarty and accused Congress of dividing the country along north-south lines in order to hide the embarrassment caused by the failure.
“The Dynastic Congress party’s agenda to divide Bharat on caste lines and uproot #SanatanaDharma , has been outrightly rejected by our people. Now their toxic plan is to attack Bharat with North – South divide. In 2024, the Congress will be consigned to the dustbin of history,” said Kesavan.
Congress”s Tehseen Poonawalla warned the Congress that the divide and rule policy will backfire on them. “Warning: The North-South divide will backfire! Don”t indulge in it and reduce the legacy of the Congress, the first nationalist and oldest political party in this great nation! Just like people did not like the abuse of Sanatan DHARMA, they won”t tolerate the North-South divide!” Poonawalla posted.
Several other authors and politicians came up against the congress leader”s controversial remarks. “Victory for Hindutva and its coalition partner, Big Business. Soft Hindutva of Cong fails miserably. The North-South-South widens.” posted by author-journalist Paranjoy Guha Thakurta.
A veteran journalist expects raids by investigating agencies ahead of the 2024 general election. “The north-south divide has become ever sharper with Congress winning in Telangana and the BJP poised to retain most Hindi states. Now expect ED and IT agencies to be fully deployed in the South until the Lok Sabha 2024 elections!” posted MK Venu.
“There is no South and North India, West or East India. There is just Bharat and its people who are Bharatiya,” said journalist-author Savio Rodrigues.
