Gaurav Gogoi, son of former chief minister Tarun Gogoi is fielded as the Congress candidate from the Jorhat constituency. Gaurav Gogoi is currently serving as the deputy leader of the Indian National Congress in the Lok Sabha since 2020. He has been representing the Kaliabor constituency in the Lok Sabha since 2014.

Born in 1982, Gaurav has completed his graduation from St. Columba’s School in Delhi. He then completed B.Tech in electronics and communication engineering in 2004 from Indraprastha University, Delhi, and then later joined the marketing team of Airtel. Gaurav then went to the United States of America to study public administration. He holds a Master of Public Administration from New York University.

It was in 2013, that Gaurav decided to take his initial steps in politics by joining the Congress party. Soon after he entered politics, the grand old party announced Gogoi as its candidate from the Kaliabor constituency. He won his first election polling a total of 443,315 votes. BJP candidate Mrinal Kumar Saikia was the opponent.

In August 2023, Gogoi led no-confidence motion against the Bharatiya Janata party government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Gaurav has ancestral roots in Jorhat and the Lok Sabha seat was represented by his father twice in the 1970s.

After Tarun Gogoi died in 2020 due to post-COVID complications, Gaurav is fighting an election for the first time in the absence of his mentor the three-time former chief minister. But with strong determination and confidence to win the election, Gaurav says he does not treat this election differently. “Every election is a challenge. I always respect my political opponent and opinions of the people. I can only work harder with the expectation that it will pay off,” Gaurav said.
