On May 19, one month had passed since the Lok Sabha elections, the most important event in Indian democracy that occurs every five years, began. According to Google search topics from the country with the highest number of internet users, it was not the elections that citizens were primarily searching for. Instead, their searches varied from cricket (mainly the IPL) to sex videos, films, and CBSE exam results. Although the keywords “General election” and “Lok Sabha elections in India 2024” were among the top 5 in the Rising Searches on Google Trends, election- keywords were nowhere to be seen in the Top Searches.
Top Searches reflect the most searched terms over a specified period. For the last one month, search key words like Indian Premier League, Video, 2024, Hindi, Film, Weather, Download, India, Meaning, Result, Price, Matka gambling, English Language, Cricbuzz, WhatsApp, Definition, Instagram, XNXX, Girl, World Wide Web, YouTube, Number, 2024 Indian Premier League and Tamil were ruling the searches. These are the keywords and topics with the highest search volume during that time frame. According to Google’s official version, they indicate what is consistently popular and frequently searched. The top searches are usually dominated by established terms and brands that people search for regularly.

Meanwhile, Rising Searches show the search terms that have experienced the most significant increase in search frequency compared to a previous period. This can be understandable as most keywords that topped the Rising Searches were specific to the month. Take keywords like Mother”s Day, General election, Lok Sabha elections in India 2024, May, sexy, CBSE Exam class 10, Central Board of Secondary Education, Satta King, Twenty20, National Informatics Centre, Heat wave, NEET, National Informatics Centre, Election contest, Atmosphere, Voting, Lucknow Super Giants, Heat, Temperature, Percentage, Definition, Lok Sabha, Punjab Kings, Telangana and Premier League, and it is visible that Indians have been busy in the last 30 days as they were searching for exam results, Lok Sabha details and the current environmental catastrophe they are witnessing – heatwave.
Rising topics and queries in the last one month on Google
The Rising Searches indicate what is gaining rapid interest or trending up at the moment. The percentage increase is used to measure this surge in interest, and these terms can highlight emerging trends, news, or sudden spikes in public interest.
The CBSE searches are one magnitude to analyse the volume of these searches happening this month. On May 13, the Google searches to the CBSE exams results spiked to more than 2.5 million. CBSE searches were mostly around CBSE class 10 results, CBSE Class 12 results, CBSE results among others. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had announced the Class 10 and Class 12 results on May 13.
Interestingly an analysis said the searches on Lok Sabha elections were also in this range in those days as the country was voting for the 4th phase of the general elections. Along with the Lok Sabha elections to 96 constituencies, Assembly elections to Odisha (first phase for 28 constituencies) and Andhra Pradesh (whole 175 constituencies were also held on May 13. The keywords also show the interest in AP elections as well in the analysis.
There is one more category in Google Trends that helps understand what people in the country were searching for during this period, which is about the search queries. The Top Searches and Rising Searches in this category are the same as in the Topics category, but interestingly, it reveals the exact keywords people were using.
On the Top queries, people were mainly searching for ipl, cricbuzz, whatsapp, ipl 2024, satta, instagram, web whatsapp, weather, youtube, मौसम, sexy, google, ipl match, translate, ipl score, satta king, ipl table, cricket, live score, ipl live, matka, ibomma, csk, bf and facebook, while in the Rising queries, they were looking mainly for india general elections 2024, hamida banu, climate change progress, mother”s day, csk vs pbks, csk vs lsg, mi vs kkr, heeramandi, gt vs rcb, bangladesh vs zimbabwe, mi vs lsg, india national elections 2024, gt vs kkr, cbse 10th result 2024, laapataa ladies, kkr vs pbks, srh vs rr, how to vote lok sabha, rcb vs dc, about yiraxidqultin in mom, severe heatwave alert, srh vs dc, t20 world cup, stake and aavesham.
This throws an interesting data that, Indians in this period were mostly searching about Indian Premier League and the daily matches happening, and along with the evergreen keywords to sex and porn.
Another important facet of these searches that Lok Sabha election searches and CBSE exam searches spiked during the elections and results dates respectively, although, a major search from Indians” search behaviour remained intact and normal in these days: porn searches. As shown in the below graph from Google Trends, searches on Xvideos, Xhamster (two major porn video websites) and sex videos were really high and the latter beat every other key words in searches as normal.

Interestingly, apart from the regular porn, this period saw heavy searches from Indians to two specific instances, one was about the Prajwal Revanna sex abuse video leak and, and another about the Jyothi Rai private video leak.

In Prajwal Revanna’s case people were mainly searching for keywords like hassan mp, hassan sex scandal, HD Revanna, prajwal revana, Prajwal Revanna, prajwal revanna clips, prajwal revanna married, prajwal revanna pen drive, prajwal revanna pendrive video, prajwal revanna pendrive videos, Prajwal revanna sex videos, prajwal revanna vedios, prajwal revanna video download, prajwal revanna video link, prajwal revanna vidio, prajwal revanna xhamster, prajwal revanna xvideos, prajwal xvideos and xhamster Prajwal.
