Nazir Ahmed Khan from the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference Party in the Gurez (ST) Constituency emerged victorious in the Jammu & Kashmir assembly elections 2024 with a margin of 1132 votes. He garnered a total number of 8,378 votes defeating the BJP candidate Faqeer Mohammed Khan. It was indeed a tight battle as Faqeer secured 7,246 total votes.
Nazir Ahmad Khan, also known as Nazir Gurezi, is a prominent Indian politician from Jammu and Kashmir. He was born on December 31, 1966, in Badwan, Gurez, Bandipora and he has made a name for himself as the leader of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference Party, Gurezi.
His political career spans over two decades with three consecutive wins as the MLA from the Gurez Assembly constituency between 2002 and 2018. He held the esteemed position of Deputy Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly until its dissolution in 2018. He also served as the Minister for Jammu and Kashmir Animal and Sheep Husbandry Department from 2008 to 2014 making him the only minister to represent Gurez in any council of ministers.
