Kalliasseri Heads For Contest As LDF Holds Strong Edge In Communist Bastion

Kannur, April 8, 2026: As campaigning ended in the Kalliasseri Assembly constituency, polling is set for April 9 as part of the Kerala Assembly Elections 2026, with a contest between LDF candidate M. Vijin, UDF candidate Adv. Rajeevan Kappacheri, NDA candidate Sanil A.V, and SDPI candidate K.K. Abdul Jabbar.

In the 2021 election, the constituency had 1,83,672 registered voters and the

Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate M. Vijin secured 88,252 votes (60.62%), defeating INC candidate Adv. Brijesh Kumar, who polled 43,859 votes (30.13%), with a margin of 44,393 votes, which is one of the top victory in the history of the state in the assembly history. BJP candidate Arun Kaithapram received 11,365 votes (7.81%).

Kalliasseri has remained a stronghold of the CPM, with the party winning the last three consecutive elections and maintaining a solid support base in the constituency.

All fronts have been active in the final phase of campaigning. The LDF is relying on its sitting MLA and strong organisational network, while the UDF is attempting to reduce the margin. The NDA and SDPI are aiming to expand their vote share.

The campaign has remained largely steady, with focus on development and local issues, and no major controversies reported during the final phase.
