Election Duty Officials Move Kerala High Court Against EC Over Postal Ballot Denial

Kochi, Kerala: Several government employees assigned to recent state assembly polls have filed a petition before the Kerala High Court. The petitioners have alleged that they were assigned duties at polling stations outside their constituencies, and were not provided with postal ballots, hence depriving them of the opportunity to exercise their franchise.

The employees demand that the election commission should allow them to vote by postal ballots before the counting day on May 4.

The petition was filed by officials who lost their voting rights after they were not allowed to issue postal ballots from voter facilitation centers despite submitting Form 12 on time. Although the Election Commission’s lawyer had assured the court on April 8 that a special opportunity to vote would be provided immediately after the elections, nothing happened so far.

The officials approached the court again as no notification has been issued yet.
