The BJP candidate Jagmohan Anand secured victory n Haryana’s Karnal assembly constituency. According to the Election Commission data, Anand secured 90,006 votes. Two-time ex-MLA and Congress candidate Sumita Virk followed behind with 56,354 votes. The margin between the two candidates is 33,652 votes.
Congress’ Sumita Virk secured the seat in 2005 and 2009.
Traditionally a BJP stronghold, Karnal was a key constituency for Manohar Lal Khattar in 2014 where he secured the seat, defeating the Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Congress government and went on to become the chief minister of Haryana.
Khattar won the constituency in the 2019 elections as well and continued his term as the state chief minister until he was replaced by Nayab Singh Saini. Saini also won the Karnal by-election this year while Khattar won the Karnal Lok Sabha seat in the 2024 general elections.
Replacing Saini, who is running from Ladwa seat, is Khattar’s former media coordinator, is Jagmohan Anand.
