Brijmohan Agrawal, an 8-time MLA, is also included in the BJP”s list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The veteran leader, who is currently serving as education minister of Chhattisgarh, is all set to contest from Raipur constituency.

In the 2023 Chhattisgarh Assembly polls, Brijmohan Agrawal registered the biggest victory in the state as he defeated his nearest rival from Congress with a margin of 67,719 votes in Raipur City South constituency. While the senior BJP leader secured 1,09,263 votes, Congress candidate Mahant Ramsundar Das managed to get only 41,544 votes. With this victory, he became the eighth straight-term MLA. Brijmohan Agrawal has remained unbeaten in the elections since 1990.

Brijmohan Agrawal, who started politics in his student days, became MLA for the first time in 1990. That time, he was elected to the assembly of undivided Madhya Pradesh from the Raipur Town seat. He also holds MCom, MA, and LLB degrees. In the 1993 and 1998 assembly polls, Brijmohan Agrawal was re-elected from the same constituency.

After the formation of Chhattisgarh state, the veteran politician contested again from Raipur Town and won by a margin of 25.974 votes. Brijmohan Agarwal also served as the Minister for Home, Prison, Culture, and Tourism in the cabinet headed by Raman Singh. Later, he also took on the additional charge of forest, sports, and youth affairs.

When Raman Singh was re-elected as the chief minister of Chhattisgarh in 2008 and 2013, Brijmohan Agrawal was also in the ministry, holding various portfolios, including education, agriculture, and the public works department. In 2018, when Congress marked a significant victory in Chhattisgarh, Brijmohan Agrawal retained his Raipur City South constituency. Meanwhile, the Raipur Lok Sabha constituency is currently represented by the BJP”s Sunil Soni.
