Lok Sabha Polls Phase Six: Candidates And Constituencies To Know

With low voter turnout recorded in each phase of the 18th Lok Sabha elections so far, the phase six elections will be held over 58 Lok Sabha constituencies across eight states and Union Territories on May 25. Standing for the elections over the parliamentary constituencies are 889 candidates from several political parties.

The electoral results will be declared on June 4.

While all seven National Capital Territory (NCT) constituencies will go to the polls in Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag-Rajouri will also vote after being deferred from phase three to phase six due to bad weather conditions.

The voting for the sixth phase will begin at 7 am. Below is a list of all the constituencies that will be voting for the penultimate phase in the Lok Sabha elections.

Key Constituencies And Their Candidates

North East Delhi (New Delhi) – The political battle for Delhi has been murky this time with AAP leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest, and the Swati Maliwal issue looming over the party. With several party leaders arrested and behind the bars, AAP has joined hands with Congress in the elections. Former president of JNU Students’ Union and Congress candidate Kanhaiya Kumar will be pitted against two-time MP Manoj Tiwari on the BJP ticket. Tiwari, who has represented the Lok Sabha seat twice, had defeated Congress candidate and former chief minister of Delhi, Shiela Dikshit, with a margin of over 360,000 votes.

Interestingly, both candidates hail from Bihar and have been eyeing Purvanchali votes to get an edge in the electoral race.

New Delhi – The high-profile seat is set to have an interesting political clash. Daughter of the late former Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj, Bansuri Swaraj has been fielded by the BJP against AAP MLA Somnath Bharti.

Kurukshetra (Haryana) – Following the farmers’ protests in 2021 and 2024, the Modi government is expected to have a tough battle in constituencies across Haryana. The party has fielded industrialist and former Congress member, Naveen Jindal from Kurukshetra constituency.

Karnal (Haryana) – Former state chief minister and BJP leader Manohar Lal Khattar has been nominated against Congress candidate Satpal Brahmachari. In March, Khattar had resigned as the chief minister along with his cabinet after conversations regarding seat-sharing in Haryana between the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) and the BJP failed.

Anantnag-Rajouri (Jammu & Kashmir) – Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti will be contesting the elections under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) banner. She is pitted against Mian Altaf Ahmad of the National Conference party.

Azamgarh (Uttar Pradesh) – The eastern UP constituency will witness a battle between sitting MP and popular Bhojpuri actor Dinesh Lal Yadav Nirahua from the BJP against Dharmendra Yadav from the Samajwadi Party, the main opposition in the state. Yadav is the nephew of former CM Mulayam Singh Yadav and cousin of former state CM Akhilesh Yadav.

Puri (Odisha)The BJP’s National Spokesperson, Sambit Patra, who recently triggered a controversy where he claimed that the state’s major deity, Lord Jagnannath, was a ‘Modi bhakt,’ has been fielded from Puri. Against him stands BJD candidate Arup Patnaik, a former Mumbai Police Commissioner, in his second parliamentary elections. Patnaik lost the Bhubaneswar seat against BJP candidate Aparajita Sarangi in the 2019 elections.

Tamluk (West Bengal) – On the BJP ticket, contesting the elections from Tamluk seat is former judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay. He will be facing Debangshu Bhattacharya, TMC member and INDIA alliance candidate.
