Mizoram Assembly Election Today

2023 assembly election results of Mizoram will be announced today. The state now occupies the centre stage of the nation’s attention. Mizoram is the last state to announce the result. The result of other four states, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Telangana was declared yesterday. BJP has taken Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh it its palm this year.

Mizoram’s assembly election result was scheduled to be declared with all the other four states, on December 3rd. However, after receiving “several representations from various quarters” citing the December 3rd, Sunday holding special significance to the people of Mizoram, the Election Commission of India has decided to re-schedule the vote counting to be on December 4th.

The incumbent Mizo National Front (MNF), Zoram People’s Front (ZPM), Indian National Congress (INC) and BJP are the major contestants of the state. Regional party plays prominent role in Mizoram politics. While in the 2018 assembly election, MNF formed the government with undefeatable victory, with 26 out 40 seats in its pockets. MNF is BJP’s NDA ally. BJP would like to change their façade in the state and by gaining more than one seat which the party have now. Congress hopes to gain back its past glory in the state, which came to a freezing point when the five-time Chief Minister of the state, Lal Thanhawla era was ended.

Exit polls showed victory for regional parties, and the National parties like Congress and BJP is highly to be out of the door. Out of the 40 seats, 21 seats are needed to form a strong assembly. while MNF, ZPM and Congress have candidates in all 40 seats, BJP aimed for 23 constituencies.
