In the assembly election held on November 25, BJP candidate Gurveer Singh emerged victorious defeating the independent candidate Om Bishnoi and INC candidate and 2018 winner Jagdish Chander. Gurveer Singh secured 74433 vote shares while Om Bishnoi and Jagdish Chander gained 58973 and 57999 respectively.
The Sadulshahar state assembly constituency is situated in the Ganganagar parliamentary constituency, which consists of voters from Sadulshahar tehsil and a portion of Shriganganagar tehsil. The fight for Sadulshahar in the 2018 and 2013 elections was fierce, with Jagdish Chander from the Indian National Congress (INC) having emerged as the winner in 2018. Chander secured 73,153 votes, accounting for 39.59% of the total votes cast. His closest rival, BJP’s Gurveer Singh Brar, gained 34.36% of the votes. The margin between the two candidates was 9,667 votes, which was around 5.28% of the total valid votes. In 2013, BJP’s Gurjant Singh had won with 47184 votes, which was 28.57 % of the total vote share. INC’s Jagdish Chander had come second with a close margin of 42376 votes, marking the nature of the constituency as a fierce battleground.
However, going by the latest reports, out of the total 199 seats in the state, the BJP wrested power from the Congress with a clear majority and emerged victorious in the state. BJP won a majority with 115 seats and the Congress came second, securing 69 seats. Along with Rajasthan, the Assembly elections were held in four other states including Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram. Results of these states are also announced, with BJP becoming victorious in three states – Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, and Congress taking Telangana.
