Indian National Congress (INC) candidate Dungarram Gedar won the Suratgarh constituency in the assembly election held on November 25, accumulating a good share of 116841 votes. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which won two times in the previous elections – in 2018 and 2013, lagged behind Dungarram Gedar with 66382 votes. Dungarram Gedar took down the incumbent Rampratap Kasania with a record 116841 votes and Independent candidate Rajender Singh Bhadu managed to get 9826 votes.

Suratgarh is part of Ganganagar district and Lok Sabha constituency and the demographics of the constituency consists of around 78.01% of the voters from rural areas and 22% in urban areas according to the data from the 2011 Census.
The Indian National Congress (INC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had traditionally dominated Suratgarh”s political spectrum, with BJP ruling over it for the past two terms.

In the 2018 assembly election, with 36.11% of the vote (69,032 votes), BJP candidate Rampratap Kasniyan won the constituency. Hanuman Meel of the INC came in second with 30.75%, or 58,797 votes. The seat had previously been secured by the BJP in 2013 when Rajendra Singh Bhadu won the election by a margin of 26,779 votes over Dungar Ram Gedar of the BSP. Suratgarh has always been politically diverse, but since 2013, the BJP has dominated the state. This constituency was last won by the INC in 2008 when Ganga Jal received 31.72% of the vote.

However, going by the latest reports, out of the total 199 seats in the state, the BJP wrested power from the Congress with a clear majority and emerged victorious in the state. BJP won a majority with 115 seats and the Congress came second, securing 69 seats. Along with Rajasthan, the Assembly elections were held in four other states including Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram. Results of these states are also announced, with BJP becoming victorious in three states – Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, and Congress taking Telangana.
