Sabitha Reddy, Telangana's Education Minister, Secures Commanding Win in Maheshwaram

Patlolla Sabitha Indra Reddy emerged triumphant in the 2023 Telangana Assembly Elections, securing the Maheshwaram constituency for BRS for yet another term. Sabitha Reddy polled 125578 votes while BJP’s Andela Sriramala Yadav came second with 99,391 votes. The INC candidate who came third garnered 70,657 votes.

 In 2014, Sabitha Indra Reddy became the home minister of Telangana. Earlier, she served as the Minister of Mines and Geology of Andhra Pradesh from 2004 to 2009. She was re-elected in 2018 as MLA from the Maheshwaram constituency. She was appointed as the Telangana Minister of Education. It is worth mentioning that Reddy holds a unique position as she is the first woman to hold the position of home minister in Andra Pradesh, as well as the first female home minister in any state in India.

The elections to Telangana State Assembly took place on November 30 for 119 seats. Maheshwaram is one of the 14 constituencies in Ranga Reddy district. It is part of the Chevella Lok Sabha constituency. In 2014, Teegala Krishna Reddy defeated Malreddy Ranga Reddy of INC as the former polled 93,305 votes and the latter polled 62,521 votes. This time, TRS came third with 42,517 votes. The total electorate was 4,03,729 in 2014.

 In the 2018 assembly elections, Pattolla Sabitha Indra Reddy defeated TRS’s Teegala Krishana Reddy with 95,481 votes. Teegala Krishna Reddy has gained 86,254 votes. BJP”s Andela Sriramulu came third with 39,445 votes. The constituency had 4,23,261 voters then.

Overall, according to the latest reports, out of the total 119 seats, Congress is leading with 49 seats and BRS is in second. BJP is currently in the third position in the total seat share. Along with Telangana, the Assembly elections were held in four other states including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Mizoram and Chhattisgarh. The results of three states except Mizoram have also been announced today.
