The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) included 15 candidates’ names from Rajasthan when it announced its first list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The party has nominated Swami Sumedhanand Saraswati, sitting MP and Arya Samaj member for Sikar constituency for the third term. Born in 1951 in Rohtak, Punjab,  Sumedhanand left his home in 1974 and joined Arya Samaj. He has also been associated with cow protection campaigns and spiritual learnings.

As a Hindu monk and founder of several cultural and spiritual organisations, his active spiritual journey lasted till the 2014 Lok Sabha election. In 2014, the BJP provided him its ticket for the first time in Sikar and then in 2019 also, opening the doors for his political career ahead. Emerging victorious in both terms with a good majority. The constituency includes eight assembly segments with both BJP and Congress representations. in 2009, Congress candidate Mahadeo Singh Khandela won the seat with a majority of 1,49,426 votes.

Mr Sumedhanand has been also vocal at several social and cultural events. Last week, he welcomed the devotees in Sikar Railway station on their return from the Ayodhya Ram Mandir, noting that the Ram devotees who visited Ayodhya gave their blessing, in his post on X (formerly Twitter)

After his ticket for the third term was confirmed, the BJP MP took to his social media platform to express his gratitude for his nomination from the Sikar constituency.
