Talks Between BJP, Akali Dal Failed; BJP To Go Alone In Punjab: Report

As the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) seat-sharing talk is going on, reports say that the discussions have failed to achieve its objectives. The BJP, reports say, will go alone in Punjab after its potential alliance with Akali Dal failed. As per the report by Times Now, the BJP and Akali Dal have not tied up and there would be two alliances between the two.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah had said that the BJP does not believe in family planning in politics as it always wants to extend its family by welcoming all who follow its political ideology. He also spoke about the ongoing  discussion with the Akali Dal for its return to the (National Democratic Alliance) NDA to form a seat-sharing coalition for the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

The development comes close to the decision of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), a former INDIA bloc member to field its candidate in all 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab and 1 in Chandigarh, leaving the India bloc partnership. Announcing the decision, the AAP supremo and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal had yesterday said that for Lok Sabha elections, Punjab has 13 seats and one from Chandigarh, adding that it will declare the candidate name in the next 10 to 15 days.

However, from 1996 to 2020, the BJP and Akali Dal were consistent partners in the state. In 2020, Akali Dal left the controversial three farm laws. Though the BJP withdrew the farm bill later, it did not show much interest in joining the NDA alliance.

The report of the failure of the alliance talks between BJP and Akali Dal comes amid the former has been engaging in talks with different regional political parties to achieve its 400 Lok Sabha seat claims in the upcoming general election.
