Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS)’s candidate Arekapudi Gandhi has once again been elected as MLA from the Serilingampally constituency in Telangana. He defeated Congress” V. Jagadeeswhar Goud with a margin of 46552 votes. While Arekapudi Gandhi secured an impressive 157332 votes, Jagadeeswar Goud was able to secure 110780 votes. BJP candidate M.Ravi Kumar Yadav came in third position with 80148 votes.
The elections to Telangana State Assembly were held on November 30 for 119 seats. Serilingampally is a major suburb located in the northwestern part of Hyderabad city. It is one of the eight constituencies of Ranga Reddy district in Telangana. It is also one of the 24 constituencies of Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
In the last two assembly elections held in Serilingampally, Arekapudi Gandhi of BRS won the elections. In 2018, running under the Telangana Rashtra Samithi banner, Gandhi garnered a total of 143,307 votes. While Telangana Desam Party”s V. Ananda Prasad came second with 99012 votes. Gajjala Yoganand representing BJP has got 22106 votes and secured the third position.
In the assembly election of 2014, Arekapudi Gandhi represented Telugu Desam Party and secured 129796 votes and it was here that Gandhi became MLA for the first time. His closest competitor, Telangana Rashtra Samithi”s Komargoni Shanker Goud, secured 53539 votes. But in the 2009 assembly election, Serilingampally witnessed a narrow margin victory of INC”s Bikshapathi Yadav M. While he got 61135 votes, Movva Satyanarayana representing Telugu Desam Party was able to secure 59808 votes.
Overall, according to the latest reports, out of the total 119 seats, Congress is leading with 64 seats and BRS with 39 seats is in second position in Telangana. BJP with 8 seats is currently in the third position in the total seat share and AIMIM has got 7 seats. While CPI was able to secure only a single seat. Along with Telangana, the Assembly elections were held in four other states including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Mizoram.
