Gaddam Vivekanand, the INC candidate succeeded by putting down the BRS’s Balka Suman in the Chennur constituency. Chennur witnessed a fierce competition between Gaddam and Balka. While Gaddam Vivekanand succeeded with 87,541 votes and a margin of 37,515 votes, opposition candidate Balkan Suman was only able to secure 50,026 votes. At the same time the BJP candidate Durgam Ashok, who came third only got 3,375 votes, losing at a margin of 84,166 votes.
Chennur is situated in the south of Mancherial district of Telangana. It is one of the three constituencies in Mancherial district. The Chennur constituency is one of the 19 reserved constituencies for the Scheduled Caste (SC) in the Telangana Legislative Assembly. In the year of 1962, it was formed into a single member constituency, initially it was a two member constituency. In the previous general assembly elections of 2009, 2014 and 2018 the constituency was dominated by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) with a high majority.
In 2018 the TRS candidate, the current MLA Balka Suman won from the constituency with a vast majority of 71,980 votes. The TRS candidate was followed by the Indian National Congress (INC) candidate, Venkatesh Netha Borlakunta with a vote of 43,526 from an electoral pool of 1,64,296.
While in 2014 the TRS party represented by Nallala Odelu, garnered a vote of 64,867 by overcoming the INC opposition represented by Gaddam Vinod. Gaddam in the second place gathered a vote of 38,703, and followed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) representative Ram Venu who was in the third place with 7,879 votes.
Overall, according to the latest reports, out of the total 119 seats, INC won 24 seats and was leading in 39 seats. BRS is currently at second position in the total seat share securing 12 seats and leading in 28 seats. BJP in the third position has won 3 seats in total and leading in 5 seats. In the current situation INC has assured its succession in the Telangana assembly election of 2023. INC leaders have initiated a sudden meeting of the candidates in the present favourable condition. Along with Telangana, the Assembly elections were held in four other states including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram. The results of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh states have also been announced today.
