Telangana Election Results: Hat-Trick Win For KP Vivekanand In Quthubullapur

BRS’s KP Vivekanand defeated BJP’s Kuna Srisailam Goud in the Qutubullapur constituency of Telangana. Qutubullapur witnessed a fierce three-cornered fight between Kunu Pandu Vivekanand, Kuna Srisailam Goud, and Kolan Hanmanth Reddy. K.P Vivekanand bagged 1,87,999 votes while Mr Srisailam came second with 1,02,423 votes. Congress candidate Hanmanth Reddy who came third was voted 1,01,554 votes.

The elections to Telangana State Assembly were held on November 30 for 119 constituencies. Qutubullapur is one of 14 constituencies in Medchal- Malkajgiri district. It is part of the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituency.

Quthubullapur was in news earlier, when, on October 25, a live TV debate between current MLA K.P Vivekanad and BJP candidate Kuna Srisailam Goud turned violent when the former grabbed the BJP candidate by throat. BJP had demanded BRS candidate K.P Vivekanand be debarred from contesting the election and questioned the delay by the police in filing a case against the MLA following his assault on Mr. Srisailam.

In 2009, Mr. Srisailam won as an independent candidate from the constituency in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh assembly elections. After the formation of Telengana, Mr Vivekanand won the constituency against Mr Srisailam in the 2014 state assembly elections as a Telugu Desam Party candidate and later joined Telengana Rashtra Samithi (now BRS). He won again in the 2018 state assembly elections. Mr Srisailam was with Congress in the 2018 elections and later joined BJP in Feb 2021.

Again in 2018, K.P Vivekanand won with 1,54,500 votes and Congress’s Srisailam came second with 1,13,000 votes. BJP candidate Kasani Veevesh Kasani came third with 9,833. The total electorate was 5,16,259 in 2018.

Overall, according to the latest reports, out of the total 119 seats, Congress is leading with 41 seats and BRS is in second. BJP is currently in the third position in the total seat share. Along with Telangana, the Assembly elections were held in four other states including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh. The results of these four states have also been announced today.
